Futuristic motorhome, that's about awesome design when it showed with precede (has stepped forward) for its era, nice to know it.

We're showcasing some of the coolest futuristic motorhomes from different decades that we think will bring back memories or quench your thirst for vintage RVs. These motorhomes were designed to be both functional and modern-looking. We've listed a few examples below to show how the design of motorhomes has evolved over time.

Futuristic Motorhome For Its Era

Here's an excellent idea to build a wide range of recreational vehicles with various features. We've listed some good examples here to showcase the progress made in each decade. How far can an RV evolve from its usual form towards a more motorhome-like structure without completely hiding its function and how it should be? In this case, the basic Class A format still has a powerful effect, and the results are impressive. Let's take a closer look.

Travco Motorhome

Travco Motorhome
In the mid-60s, the Travco Motorhome was introduced as a Class A recreational vehicle with a futuristic design that was ahead of its time. It had a more aerodynamic shape than most motorhomes at the time, making it very popular. It was based on a Dodge motorhome chassis and was in production from 1965 to the late 80s.

GMC Motorhome

During the 1970s, GMC motorhomes were displayed at the GMC factory showroom. They were the only complete motorhomes ever built by a major automobile manufacturer. The GMC Motorhome was developed under the GM Truck & Coach Division with a radical design for that era. It had a lower profile, front-wheel drive layout, and a fully integrated body (monocoque), which gave it a more modern and futuristic look than the other motorhomes of its time.

What sets this vehicle apart from other motorhomes of the era is that it was designed not merely as a "camper," but as a comfortable travel vehicle as well. It was produced for a short period, from 1973 to 1978, which makes it more valuable today than other motorhomes, such as the Travco Motorhome, which had longer production years.

Vixen Motorhome

In the mid-1980s, the Vixen Motor Company introduced one of the most advanced RVs ever created as a mass-produced product. This RV was based on a foreign drivetrain from BMW and was available in three different types: the Vixen 21 TD (powered by a BMW Turbo Diesel), the Vixen 21 SE (powered by a GM V6 Gas-engine), and the Vixen XC/39 Limos (powered by a BMW Turbo Diesel).

The Vixen RV was inspired by the GMC motorhome, but it was designed to be lighter, lower, and smaller than its competitors while still offering all of the same features. Its aerodynamic design was tested in a wind tunnel and was found to be superior to most production sedans and even some sports cars on the road at the time.

Production of the Vixen RV only lasted for three years, from 1986 to 1989.

Mauck Special Vehicles

Mauck Special Vehicles
In the late 19th century, specifically in the 90s, a unique and expensive vehicle was created by Andy Mauck, known as Mauck Specialty Vehicles (MSV). Originally designed as a customized after-market vehicle, it was not intended to be a motorhome, but rather cater to the buyer's preferences. Later, a group of investors bought the company and rebranded it as Advanced Bus Industries (ABI). Between 1996 and 1999, over 100 units of MSV were built. These units could serve as an excellent base to convert into a motorhome.
